# Pricing

> Prices vary with the nature of the work, the state of the existing code and how urgent the request is. Here are some rough figures to get your bearings, and more importantly what makes a price vary from one project to another.

## What makes a price vary

Two requests that look similar on the surface can have very different costs. The factors that weigh the most:

The state and readability of the existing code: clean code costs less to extend than a stack of undocumented customisations.

How urgent the request is, which can cut down the time available to investigate before acting.

The volume of data to migrate or integrate.

The number of third-party systems to connect and how good their documentation is.

The level of independence wanted after delivery: documentation, handover, training.

## By type of service

- **One-off troubleshooting** — Billed by time spent. Most routine jobs fall between a few dozen and a few hundred euros, depending on how complex the diagnosis is.
- **Custom development** — From around €500 for a targeted feature to several thousand euros for a full application, depending on the scope set at briefing.
- **API integration** — Generally between €800 and €5,000, depending on the quality of the external system's documentation and the number of edge cases to handle.
- **Migration** — Generally between €1,000 and €8,000, depending on data volume and whether the platform changes.
- **Managed hosting** — Roughly €50 to €200 a month, depending on the server size the application needs.
- **Maintenance** — Roughly €80 to €300 a month, depending on how often follow-up runs and how many sites are involved.

## What's included, what isn't

What's part of the work, unless the quote states otherwise:

A diagnosis before any final pricing.

Testing the code before it goes to production.

A written report of what was done and why.

What isn't included by default:

Writing content or marketing strategy.

Graphic design and visual mock-ups.

In-depth training for a team, unless explicitly requested.

Managing third-party hosting that I don't administer.

## The principle

> I don't set a price without having seen the actual situation. A quote always follows a conversation, even a brief one, to avoid a figure that wouldn't match anything real once work starts.

## FAQ

### Do you offer a free quote?

A first conversation to understand the request isn't billed. If a deeper diagnosis is needed before pricing, I'll tell you before committing to it, with a rough idea of the time it represents.

### Do you work fixed-price or time-and-materials?

Both, depending on the nature of the work. Fixed price suits a well-defined scope; time-and-materials suits one-off troubleshooting or ongoing maintenance follow-up better.

### Do you ask for a deposit?

For larger services, yes, usually at project start. Terms are set out in the quote, not improvised afterwards.

### Are the prices shown guaranteed?

They're rough figures, not contractual rates. The exact price always depends on the actual situation, set after a conversation or a diagnosis.

### Do you bill by the hour or by the day?

Depends on the service: by the hour for one-off troubleshooting, fixed price or by the day for larger development. The billing model is set out before work starts.
