About

I'm Emre Ucak. I've been an independent e-commerce developer since 2019, specialising in PrestaShop and WooCommerce, and also comfortable with Shopify, PHP/Laravel and Node.js. This page explains how I work, and what I don't do.

An independent developer’s desk with a laptop, a code screen, a mug and a lamp casting amber light.

Background

I've worked independently since 2019 on e-commerce projects: troubleshooting, development, migration, hosting, security. Two platforms account for most of my experience, PrestaShop and WooCommerce, because they're the ones I've worked with most consistently from the start. I also work on Shopify, and I build outside the standard e-commerce scope in PHP, with the Laravel framework, and in Node.js when a project calls for it.

I don't have an agency behind me. That's not a default choice: I'd rather stay on the code and the technical diagnosis than manage a team, and I'd rather a client know exactly who they're talking to from the first message through to delivery.

How I work

  1. Understand before proposing

I ask precise questions about the actual situation before suggesting a solution or a price, even if that takes a bit of time upfront.

  2. A written brief, even a short one

What will be done and what won't is put in writing, to avoid misunderstandings once work has started.

  3. Direct work on the code

No intermediary between diagnosis and fix: the person who looks at the problem is the one who fixes it.

  4. Honest feedback, even when it's not what you want to hear

If a project isn't feasible under the conditions requested, or if the existing code needs a larger rebuild, I say so before I start billing time.

Frequently asked questions

Why work with a freelancer rather than an agency?
Because you talk directly to the person writing the code, with no sales layer in between. In exchange, I can't put a team on a project that needs several specialists at once, and I say so when that's the case.
Do you only work remotely?
Almost all work is done remotely. An on-site visit is occasionally possible depending on the situation, discussed case by case.
Which technologies are you most comfortable with?
PrestaShop and WooCommerce first, where I have the most accumulated experience. Shopify, PHP/Laravel and Node.js round this out for needs that fall outside a standard e-commerce platform.
Do you take on every project you're offered?
No. If a project doesn't match my skills, or if the requested deadline isn't realistic given what it involves technically, I say so rather than accept and hope it works out.
How do you guarantee the confidentiality of my data?
Any access you give me is used solely for the work requested. I can sign a confidentiality agreement if your business requires one, and I never use a client project as a public reference without prior explicit agreement.
